Middle Earth Housing’s RETURNING Resident Advisors for 2012-2013! <3

I am very excited to work with this group next year as a team and am hoping to grow with them as we get challenged by a new hall and a new group of residents!

What is the difference between middle earth and mesa court? i'm a incoming freshman and I still don't know which dorm to pick. :| help?

Have you visited the housing communities? :)

Well, I could give you all the technical information, I guess.

Mesa Court has more of a park feel. It’s more open, the buildings are more spread out from each other. They use hard keys, so they will be harder to lose since you are used to having hard keys, but they are more expensive to replace. Mesa Court residence halls only have single-gender suites. What is a suite you ask? Well, it’s basically a hallway of about 6 rooms and you share that little hallway with everyone in the suite. Each suite has a bathroom.

Middle Earth has more of a suburban feel. The buildings are much closer to each other, so it almost feels like living in a city. They use card keys like you do in hotels so you can lose them a little more easily, but it is cheaper to replace. In Middle Earth, you can preference a co-ed suite which means that in the suite, there will be boy rooms and girl rooms, but there are separate bathrooms for each gender. There is also an all girls hall in Middle Earth.

Those are the very little differences and personally, those things that I listed don’t matter to me as much anymore now that I’ve lived in Middle Earth for two years. The reason I asked earlier if you have visited the housing communities is because you can gain a better vibe of where you think you will belong more.

I definitely love Middle Earth and if I got to be a freshman again, I would choose Middle Earth again in a heartbeat.

My best non-biased advice for you is to visit the communities and check it out and see what you like more (and I really mean this).

If I wanted to give you a shorter answer though, I would have just said… CHOOSE MIDDLE EARTH! IT’S THE BEST!!! :D

Middle Earth Housing Spring Fling 2012

I’m so blessed that I have residents that love me even in times of my monstrosity.

wait. this is the perfect plot for a movie. you can be the lame dude and ill be the cool guy and in the process, we can balance eachother out and just be super cool
lynnhuh lynnhuh Said:

Too bad I’m not a dude…

Asker Anonymous Asks:
can you help me find all the cool parties? i just want to get crunk and slizzard all day
lynnhuh lynnhuh Said:

Sorry, dude/dudette… I don’t get invited to those because I’m not cool. Besides, getting crunk and slizzard all day might lead you to getting kicked out of school.

Hi! I'm Priscilla and I'm planning to attend UCI but I'm super nervous and scared due to the fact that my hometown is like 8 hours away. I was planning to major in the business. I would like to know your experience there as a freshmen(:
lynnhuh lynnhuh Said:

Hi Priscilla! How exciting! :) Welcome to UCI! Don’t be nervous or scared, as long as you open yourself up, you should be able to meet great people on this campus and you will feel comfortable soon enough.

I had an awesome freshman experience. I feel kind of old just thinking about it, but if there was one thing I would do differently, I would definitely explore my options more. I met a lot of people, got involved in my Christian club, made great friends in my hall, but I got comfortable really fast. I definitely made memories that I will cherish forever, but as I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I think it is important to stretch yourself. There were times when I passed up opportunities because I was lazy or because I was scared that it wouldn’t fit me, but you really will never know if you try. You will meet a lot of upperclassmen that will tell you to make the most out of your freshman year and this piece of advice will be repeated so much that it might not affect you as much. BUT honestly, MAKE THE MOST OUT OF YOUR FRESHMAN YEAR. Time flies by so much faster after. I can’t even believe that I’m going to be a senior in college next fall.

Haha, I feel like I didn’t really answer your question, but feel free to ask more! :)

Hi. I have been tracking the “uci” tag on tumblr lately, and I just wanted to write something to incoming college freshmen. Not just UCI freshmen, but all freshmen… So, I asked one of my closest friends Anna Verbeke, to help me out with what to write to you all.

Anna and I are both Resident Advisors at Middle Earth Housing, one of the two main freshmen housing communities, and we love freshmen. We want to help the transition and be there for our residents whenever we can be. That is why we have this position. We just thought of a few pointers you should keep in mind as you embark on your new college adventure!

1) It is not about where you are. It is about the people you meet. Many of you might be going to a university or college that was not your first choice, but being bitter about it will limit your chances of meeting awesome people that might just change your lives.

2) Take advantage of every opportunity that interests you and do not be afraid to s t r e t c h yourself.

3) Give people a chance. Did they leave a bad impression on you in the beginning? Well, give it another shot. You never know if they are the ones that will challenge you and help you grow into a better person.

4) There are times where things do not go as planned, but learn to embrace the situation given to you because everything happens for a reason. You gain the true college experience by what YOU make of it. Things will work out once you let things fall into their place.

The thought of college may be intimidating, exciting, and/or nerve-wracking. You are probably feeling a whole spectrum of emotions regarding college, but college will come when it is time. Enjoy your last moments in high school, no matter how much you want to get out.

Much Love,

Anna and Lynn

  • Me: Hey, can you do me a favor?
  • Brian Wang: Yeah, sure!
  • Me: Can you fill this (water canteen) up from the water filter by the housing office please? The water from the water fountain in the hall tastes like metal sometimes...
  • Brian Wang: Oh, okay! (turning to Jonathan Lee) We're whipped.
  • My residents are the best! <3 AND I would like to add that I was the Duty Coordinator of the night so could not leave my room.
LYNN HUH YOU'RE TOO COOL.

My parents came to visit me and they got to meet my residents and fellow staff members. My dad said he never wants to visit again because too many people say hi. Funny thing is that whenever I am with my dad, I am busy greeting all of his friends. I showed them my room, took them to the BSC, walked them to the rose garden, and then went to Aldrich Park.  We only had two hours, but it was nice having them come just to make sure I was recovering well. :)

It was a success!

I did not expect it to be this painful. I did not expect them to put nails into my head leaving two holes in my forehead holes in the back of my head. Well, I guess they were not nails, but let me just say it was very painful. Hahaha, I feel like such a baby, but I guess it was humbling too, me thinking that I could handle everything.

When they started to put those pins in, it was so painful. I know I am saying this a lot, but it hurt. And then I got reminded of how much it must have hurt when they jammed the thorns into Jesus’ head. That hurt even more…

So… I guess I got a glimpse of how much pain my Savior went through for me today.

Well, the day has finally been set!

People who are OBSESSED are raw with God; they do not attempt to mask the ugliness of their sins of their failures. Obsessed people don’t put it on for God; He is their safe place, where they can be at peace.
